WORLD TANGO BATTLE 2026

We warmly invite all lovers of Argentine tango to take part in the second international Argentine tango tournament in battle format — WORLD TANGO BATTLE 2026!

The competition will take place on March 1, 2026, in a spectacular ballroom overlooking the Moscow River at the Radisson Collection Hotel, Moscow (formerly the legendary Hotel Ukraina).

For participants and guests of WORLD TANGO BATTLE 2026, the Radisson Collection Hotel, Moscow offers special accommodation rates with a 15% discount off the best available rate.

On this day, dancers will compete for the World Champion title, and the audience will witness a breathtaking show filled with passion, intensity, and unforgettable emotions.

For the second time, couples and solo dancers will meet in open tango duels, while the winners will be chosen not only by renowned Argentine tango experts, but also by the audience itself.

This year, the competition will be divided into two formats:

Battle format competitions (in the finals of selected categories)
Classical competitions in ronda format

General Information

World Tango Battle is an international Argentine tango competition that unites the classical competitive tradition with the spectacular energy of battle format dancing.

Battle Format in Final Rounds

Final rounds in battle format will be held for the following categories:

Tango de Pista (Intermediate) — Battle
Tango de Pista (Open All Levels) — Battle
Tango de Pista (Pro-Pro) — Battle
Tango Vals (Intermediate) — Battle
Tango Vals (Open All Levels) — Battle
Tango Milonga (Intermediate) — Battle
Tango Milonga (Open All Levels) — Battle
Tango Escenario Variación (Open All Levels) — Battle
Tango Nuevo (Open All Levels) — Battle
Barre Improvisation Solo (Open All Levels) — Battle
Barre Variación Solo (Open All Levels) — Battle (music track available for download)
Pugliese Musicality Cup (Osvaldo Pugliese Orchestra) — Battle
D’Arienzo Musicality Cup (Juan D’Arienzo Orchestra) — Battle
Di Sarli Musicality Cup (Carlos Di Sarli Orchestra) — Battle

Each category includes several stages: qualification rounds, semifinals, and finals.

Qualification rounds and semifinals are held in the classical ronda format, while the final stage (from 8 to 12 couples or solo dancers) takes place in battle format.

Judging in the qualification rounds and semifinals follows the skating system, where judges select participants using crosses. Couples or soloists who receive the highest number of votes advance to the next round.

Final Battle Stages

Final rounds consist of several stages:

Final Stage 1: the floor is divided into four rings, with 8 to 12 couples participating
Final Stage 2: the floor is divided into two rings, with four couples — winners of Stage 1
Final Stage 3: the entire dance floor is used with no division

The Organizer reserves the right to set participation limits for each category and round, with participants informed in advance.

IMPORTANT: In the final rounds, all participants compete only against their direct opponents using a knockout (play-off) system.

How to Become a “People’s Judge”

Anyone who is not a professional Argentine tango dancer or expert may apply to become a People’s Judge.

Ronda Format in All Rounds

Competitions in ronda format throughout all stages will be held for the following categories:

Tango de Pista Pro-Am Beginner
Tango Vals Pro-Am Beginner
Tango Milonga Pro-Am Beginner

These categories include semifinal and final rounds judged using the skating system.

Levels

Beginner — up to 2 years of training
Intermediate — from 2 to 3 years of training
Open All Levels — open to dancers of any level
Pro-Pro — professional teachers and stage performers of Argentine tango

Participants

Participation is open to all dancers aged 18 and over.
A registered participant is someone who has completed registration and paid the entry fee.
